Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Cooked spaghetti, shredded cheddar cheese, and diced onions for serving

Directions:

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
  2. Add the onion and garlic to the pot and continue to cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. Add the chili powder, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, cumin, cayenne pepper, and cocoa powder to the pot and stir to combine.
  4. Add the diced tomatoes (with their juice), tomato sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaves, and water to the pot and stir to combine.
  5. Bring the chili to a simmer and let it cook for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together.
  6. Remove the bay leaves from the pot and season the chili with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. To serve, spoon the chili over cooked spaghetti and top with shredded cheddar cheese and diced onions.
