This is so easy and hearty; with just four ingredients and simple prep, it's a weeknight favorite for the kids (and parents).
Ingredients
- 10 oz of dry "tube" pasta like mostaccioli, ziti, or penne (smaller pasta like elbows does not work as well)
- 1 lb of your favorite ground sausage
- 1 jar (24 oz) your favorite spaghetti sauce
- 8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
- (A few shakes of garlic powder if desired)
Method
- Preheat oven to 350
- Boil the pasta two minutes less than the package "al dente" instructions say to
- While pasta boils, break up and brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat (about 7 minutes)
- Place drained pasta, sauce, sausage, half the cheese, and garlic if using, into a large bowl and blend well
- Place mixture into a greased 9" round casserole dish or similar, and sprinkle remaining cheese evenly on top
- Bake, uncovered, for about 30-40 minutes, cheese should be dark golden brown
Notes
I serve with a salad and garlic bread. Save time by using pre-shredded cheese. The more flavorful the sausage and sauce you use, the more flavorful the dish will be. You can add 3 to 4 ounces of sliced or quartered fresh mushrooms, if you like them; just throw them into the bowl with the rest of the stuff.
